I was out of town for 3 weeks and came back to a coffee pot with mold in it. Is it ok to wash and then use?

It pretty much looks like this but a little worse. http://www.tian.cc/2006/01/moldy-coffee-鈥?/a> Is it ok to wash in the dish washer and then reuse? Any tips would be appreciated. Plus does anyone know what temperature coffee is made at? I don't think it's boiling water but I'm not sure.I was out of town for 3 weeks and came back to a coffee pot with mold in it. Yes, you can still use it. I would thoroughly wash the filter basket in the dishwasher. If you don't have a dishwasher, wash it in the sink with a small amount of bleach and rinse with hot water. It will not hurt you. I have had this same thing happen and I've been drinking coffee with it again for some time now and have not gotten ill from it. Moulds should not be toxic except at very large amounts which may cause some illnesses (some but rarely fatal) however if you clean it really well, not in the dishwasher cos it just spreads the spores. Try pouring some boiling water and then let it coll and put a lot of soap and clean with a sponge. Then rinse it many times with cold water. If i were oyu however i would just buy a new one cps it looks like you've got a really bad situation.

Coffee boils at less than boiling water cos they form some bonds which make them boil easier.

PS: clean your coffee pot thoroughly everytime you're about to store it to avoid having any moulds!
Coffee is best served between 155 and 175 degrees. The pot (so long as it's only the pot, and not the coffee machine) can be washed with soap and water, rinsed really well, and used without any problems.
It's fine to wash and then keep using this same coffee pot.

It's happened to me a couple of times.

Soak in a mixture of hot water and bleach.

Clean well.

Rinse well.

And then clean with regular dish soap and water.

Rinse well again.

If it's really going to bother you ... knowing that you're drinking coffee from a pot that once had mold in it, then just buy a new one.

Either way is fine.

:)

Hope I helped, and enjoy your java!!!
Same thing happened to my moms coffee pot after accidentally leaving the coffee in there for a week, she just washed it out with dish detergent. This happened about 4 months ago and she's been using the same coffee pot and nothing bad has happened.
I would say you need to wash it in warm water and use some form of antiseptic solution after cleaning it off. However to be honest I would prefer to discard it.
YUCK!

YES!

But use some very hot water as well as some hydrogen peroxide. Twice.
Well, it might be best to buy a new coffee pot. You never know, you could get so sick from mold. Sorry that's all I could really say.
