Why do my towels and face cloths smell like mold after I wash them??

They are washed with cheer, then dried with bounce (unscented) They smell fine until I wet them....then.....mold smell. I've thrown out several now. The colours of my cloths are beige and lt blue. Any suggestions would be great. Why do my towels and face cloths smell like mold after I wash them??
use HOT water.

make sure they are dry before storing them

check the place you are storing them inWhy do my towels and face cloths smell like mold after I wash them??
change the detergent.
Perhaps you repeatedly let them sit in the hamper too long before washing them, or you left them in the washer overnight.
Try to dry on a sun!

Or the cotton is to old :(
well if you leave them in the washing machine for too long before drying them that sometimes does it and if you leave them sitting in the bathroom too long after you use them that will do it too after you use them try setting them out to dry don't just wand them up and throw them into a pile
At some point in time, they've sat either in the hamper wet or in the washer wet, for too long. This has happened to me many times. (I'm very absent minded) And the best thing I've found is to wash them in very hot water with about a cup of vinegar along with your regular detergent, this should help get the smell out. Good Luck.
In addition to the excellent suggestions already posted, I would add: Check your dryer itself, and note your settings, etc., for length of drying time and type of material. Also check that the lint trap is cleaned frequently, for efficiency and safety. The heat has to be strong enough to kill mold spores.
try using a strong type of washing powder...

and when drying use a radiator...do not leave outside to dry
I would also check your washing machine for mold. If it is an older machine they can get mold growing on the inside. I suggest letting your washer wash with nothing inside. Just hot water and bleach.
Use a little clorox for colors, and about 1/2 cup of white vinegar the next time you wash them along with your detergent. Also use the scented bounty sheets and no more smelly towels when they get wet:)
You allow them to stay wet until you wash them. They mold in the hamper. Unless you wash them with chlorine bleach, they will smell. You need to let them dry before tossing them in the hamper.
wash them again with detergent and white vinegar and dry promptly and completely

if it still happens, have a plumber check your vent for the water supply in that area of the house
This is how you remedy this problem and why your towels smell of mold is because you are not drying them correctly towels must be dried thoroughly before you fold and put them away, plus you could be storing your towels in a wet or moist area such as storing them in the bathroom never store your towels in the bathroom this will cause them to mold/mildew, try this method of removing the smell and disinfecting them and also killing the mold/mildew that is growing in your towels which could eventually make you sick if it becomes very bad, Pour one cup of White Vinegar in the hottest water available in your washer, do not add any detergent while performing this treatment set on full cycle, do not add any fabric softner as vinegar softens and removes odors and stains and will remove the residues left by the detergents which holds in the odors, then remove promptly when done your towels are then ready to dry in the dryer or can be line dried but avoid direct sunlight as vinegar whitens and do not use dryer sheets as this reduces absorbency any fabric softner will reduce the absorbency of towels, but vinegar is safe to use for every load it will clean and soften your whole wash for less money it is also touted as being the best disinfectant in the world and can be used as an all purpose cleaner/degreaser and stain treatment

When washing future loads of laundry you can add half cup to the rinse cycle or add to the fabric softner dispenser to soften your loads without using expensive fabric softner your towels will come up fluffy and soft everytime and won't have that sickly perfume smell on them and be more absorbent or you can add to one of those softner balls dispensers if you like Good Luck !
your leaving them too long before hanging them out
As well as washing them in hot water and making sure they are dried long enough, try adding ammonia to the wash water (the amount and when to add are on the side of the bottle), make sure your wash cycle is long enough, and that there are not too many towels in at one time. The clothes should agitate freely without binding.
