The only way to remove it is to use bleach, but only if it is a white dress, otherwise you can try a dry cleaner. How can i remove mold from a hand made girls dress what can i throw in the wash to take the mold off?
Mmmm, this is gonna take some effort...
What material is the dress made of, and what color is it?
How long has the mildew been there?
Where on the dress is the mold at, and how big of an area does it cover?
I'll check back, and try to help.
OK, try this:
Get some old-fashioned Lye Soap (yep! Lye Soap!)
We still have it available here in the South, but you may have to order it depending on where you are....
Handwash the dress in the sink, gently but thoroughly, and be sure to rinse completely.
Soak the dress overnight in hot water to cover (hand-bearable hot, not boiling hot...) with 2 cups Baking Soda, dissolved in your kitchen sink.
Now the fun starts....
Drain the cold water in the morning, and rinse the dress well.
Get the Lye soap and on each part of the dress that is damaged, use the soap on the dress as though you are lathering a washcloth in your hands.
Do not rinse each area before you go on to the next.
Be sure to saturate the material thru to the other side with the soap.
Leave the dress, wet %26amp; soapy, in the sink. Do not rinse.
Every so often, once an hour or so, rub the mildewed areas briskly.
After 2 or 3 hours, rinse thoroughly.
Inspect.
Repeat the soaping, rubbing, waiting, rinsing if necessary.
You may use a toothbrush or plastic scrubby as long as you are somewhat gentle.
I have removed mildew from baby clothes given to my daughter this way, %26amp; in some cases the mold had been there for WHO KNOWS how long!! It takes some focused effort but the clothes were good as new at the end of it all.
You may have to also use a brush %26amp; Oxy Clean powder intermittently with the lye soap, but just be persistent and you should eventually be able to get it clean.
My friend even used the bathroom mildew, mold %26amp; stain remover stuff to clean up an heirloom baby dress but she wasnt planning on using it on a child again...I have never actually done that so dont take my word for it.
Good Luck! How can i remove mold from a hand made girls dress what can i throw in the wash to take the mold off?
try soaking in 1 cup ammonia to 1 gal water, does not remove color, safer for fabric than bleach.... never mix with bleach
here are two suggestions: spot shot for stains or take it to the dry cleaners
the only thing to really kill mold is bleach... if you can bleach it without it getting bleach stains.. try this- get a clorox bleach pen (dont use a cheap store brand... i have enver had luck with them) and sqeeze it onto the spots and scrub.. let sit a while and wash out
i have some chunky soled shoes that have like this twine lookng stuff around the heel and they are white.... they got dirty- dunno ifit was mold or dirt.. but nothing i tried worked and i covered it with the bleach gel and let it set after a scrub and they came out almost as perfect as when i got them
