Can mold or mildew in a washing machine cause you to get sick?

im visiting my mom and i noticed alot of mold in her washing machince and i have an older daughter who lives with her do you think that would cause her to feel sick? my daughter is currently seeing a doctor because she hasnt fely well but they are still trying to figure out whats wrong. Can mold or mildew in a washing machine cause you to get sick?
Yes mold can be extremely toxic.

It can cause respiratory problems head aches stomach disorders skin rashes and in some cases developmental problem es.

I've reared of some cases so bad that the homes infected had to be burnt down.

If the mold is only in the washing machine invest in a few gallons of bleach pour in in and run the washer through a cycle with HOT water.

And with out clothing in it of course.

How do you get mold out of clothing? I tried washing it 2xs and spraying it with every kind of stain fighter.

try rinsing in lemon juice. Diluted if its a colored item and then hang in sunlight for a day or so. Sometimes this works. How do you get mold out of clothing? I tried washing it 2xs and spraying it with every kind of stain fighter.
try using peroxzide. How do you get mold out of clothing? I tried washing it 2xs and spraying it with every kind of stain fighter.
Throw it away- unless you can douse it with bleach and have it survive, it will never go away! Mold is not a stain- it is a growth and could be very dangerous to your health by breathing in the spores.

My new washing machine makes my clothes smell like mold?

I have a 4 month old Kenmore front-load washing machine. It makes my laundry, especially my towels smell moldy. I take them out right away and put them in the dryer (also new, bought with the washer) but they still smell. Anyone else have this problem, and/or suggestions to fix it?

Thanks!

My new washing machine makes my clothes smell like mold?
run an empty load with soap, baking soda and bleach on hot. Then when you are washing your laundry put a little bit of baking soda in with the soap and when you are done with your laundry open the soap area and the door and let them dry out. I noticed that when I lived where the humidity was low I didn't have this problem but when I moved somewhere where the humidity was very high I have this problem. I follow these steps and I don't have a problem. My new washing machine makes my clothes smell like mold?
~~This should not be happening. You still have a warranty, call them out! I put up with that on a Neptune and had to give it away. I have a Kenmore Elite now for about 4 years or more, and never has this happened. Make them fix it!!~~
Maybe your washing machine might be very old.

I found this as well but if you do a wash cycle with empty washer it may work
Run an empty load with a bit of vinegar or bleach.
try a water softener and baking soda.
I have had the same problem. I bought a set and my clothes came out covered in lint and smelled like mold. I bought mine at Lowes and before they were a year old I took a shirt that had been washed and hang dried and showed the guy that sold it to me. He told me to call for service ( he said there had to be a service call as a technicality) and then come in with paper work and they would come pick them up and give me my money back. That's what I did and I bought the largest top loader I could find that had an agitator. I have loved Lowes ever since I continually warn people not to buy these top loaders and HE machines like the Calypso because of this but they will just go do it anyway and then they see for themselves. It shocks me the people on here that say they have this problem but would still recommend them! They are supposed to save water etc. but you are constantly running a load with no clothes in them to try to get rid of the funky smell, or you need to wash in hot water they say, that's supposed to help with the funky smell. Not to mention having to use the pricy HE detergent. How efficient does this sound? Not very efficient if you ask me. I would say try to get Sears to take them back but at the time I returned mine, there were many lawsuits against Sears by people who were having this problem and Sears wouldn't take them back. Since yours is only 4 months old it is possible that you can return it. That's what I would do if at all possible. You have to live with these things for years to come. I'm so glad to be rid of mine I cannot tell you. Lowes made a loyal customer out of me for taking mine back.

  • I found mold on my baby's cereal bowl, I washed it three times. What happens if I use it? and What if I steril

It was mold from formula and rice cereal. I washed it with dishsoap about three times. I'm very cautious and worried about using it again even if I sterilize it. i need to know if it's safe to use it again?I found mold on my baby's cereal bowl, I washed it three times. What happens if I use it? and What if I steril
Go ahead and sterilize it and it should be fine.I found mold on my baby's cereal bowl, I washed it three times. What happens if I use it? and What if I steril
don't use bleach in your baby's bowl. if you have a dishwasher run it through or boil some water and dunk it in for just a second. personally, i would toss it. i see that you are a young mommy. i think the best thing you can do is to trust your gut. and if you feel like 3 washes isn't enough, then do what YOU think is best.
if your so worried just throw it out and get another. It's only less then a dollar for a bowl!!
    Just buy a new one.
It's perfectly fine....you washed it 3 times! Is there only 1 bowl in the whole house? Just head to a Dollar Store and get another one if you're worried.
It is perfectly safe Trust me after two kids one is now 2 and the other 3 they put a lot worse things in their mouth LOL.

seriously the bowl is fine you washed it many times and baby will be ok the mold is gone now.

You're the mom I started out being (worried about everything) but if you worry constantly you and your baby will never experiment and have fun together. Go ahead get dirty!!!!!!

    Brandy
If you washed it out 3 times and rinsed it it is wayyyyyy ok.

what I do when it happens to me is wash it in a little bleach water and rise it well ...your good to go.
Oh my godness! Use it if you want to! If you're really worried, throw it out.. it's a cereal bowl!

Anybody know how i can remove the black mold that collects around the rubber band in the washing machine?

Try pouring straight bleach on it. It should clear it up in a matter of a minute.Anybody know how i can remove the black mold that collects around the rubber band in the washing machine?
bleachAnybody know how i can remove the black mold that collects around the rubber band in the washing machine?
spray bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water --i now use this with a touch of nice smelling dish soap for all my counters and reg cleaning jobs --kills germs no smell cheap works in secs --

bleach and mold have been shown through study to react and cause a toxic effect
Clorox bathroom spray cleaner will work well. Just remember to rinse the area really good before you use the machine again or the bleach could stain your clothing.
Is the band of rubber black? and what you have is old fashioned green mold? Yes, bleach and lime-away works to remove both mold and lime scale residue.
Use pure bleach. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and rinse well.
Clove oil will remove it and prevent it from returning.

How can you clean away mold and mildew from a cement patio without power washing it?

bleachHow can you clean away mold and mildew from a cement patio without power washing it?
Oh yes, you don't need to ruin the concrete with a power washer. The new O2 systems work pretty well. For example Oxibrands O-2 Algae and Mold remover or Oxi Shield. Check Ace hardware stores.....or was it True Value. These also are gentle to the nearby shrubbery and lawns unlike bleach. How can you clean away mold and mildew from a cement patio without power washing it?
Mix a few good swigs of bleach in a bucket of water and simply dump it on the patio. Use a broom to sweep it off and away goes the mold and mildew with it. Repeat, depending on the size you are trying to clean.
Bleach and detergent will kill and clean the mold off anything.
Fill your bucket with either a strong bleach solution or a mildicide. mop using lots of solution. scrub with a stiff brush where you must (I use one with a long handle..saves the knees)

    rinse thoroughly. Enjoy your patio!!
I have used a spray bottle in the past using a solution of bleach and water to kill the mold and mildew. That will stop the mold and mildew in its tracks!
You can try mopping the patio with solution of bleach and water, but power washing is the best way.
Bleach will kill the mold and mildew. Pour it on or spray it on. Let it sit until you see the mildew lose its color. Then it can be scrubbed with plain water and a good broom. Just keep the bleach away from any nearby plants.

I had a blanket and It was in basement. I washed it a few times and the mold markings is on blanket . ?

I washed it a few times and the mold markings is on blanket but blanket has spots on it. How do I get spots out and is it really clean?? I had a blanket and It was in basement. I washed it a few times and the mold markings is on blanket . ?
Try hot water ,white vinegar and dawn I had a blanket and It was in basement. I washed it a few times and the mold markings is on blanket . ?
I recommend you try to wash it again with hot water setting and a good amount of detergent. But this time add 1 cup of bleach. It will kill any mold, fungus and germs. You could also pre-treat the stains with Spray-n-Wash but the bleach should get the stains out too.

Throw it away. To get mold out, there are special companies who do this type of thing and it can be rather expensive. Unless this blanket has sentimental value, toss it.

Mold smell, washed clothes and washed overflowed. I cleaned all water up, but when i woke up it stunk.?

Title say it. After i woke it stunk, what do i need to do? i cleaned all the water i could up last night. Still damp, i put a fan on it.Mold smell, washed clothes and washed overflowed. I cleaned all water up, but when i woke up it stunk.?
make a solution of water and bleach. 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and spray it then clean it up again. The bleach will kill the mold and make the smell go away.Mold smell, washed clothes and washed overflowed. I cleaned all water up, but when i woke up it stunk.?
There must be some hidden molds somewhere and thus the musty smell. Search around if you have moisture problem or if there is any leakage that contribute to the high humidity level.

To eliminate the smell, you need to first remove the source, i.e. the molds. Keep the area as dry as possible with the use of dehumidifier and provide good air ventilation that allows fresh air to circulate.

BTW, vinegar is a better cleaner as compared to bleach as vinegar does not produce harmful fumes and it is edible. So you don't really have to worry about using it for household cleaning.

    Hope this helps.
Sweetieface has it right about the bleach. But be sure to keep lots of fresh air in the area until the smell of the chlorine goes away. There is a good chance that you have traces of cleaning solutions left on the floor since you last cleaned it. Dangerous fumes can result from mixing chlorine and even a little bit of other chemicals.

are they still okay to wear and use as long as i wash them? what is the best thing to wash them in to make sure i get rid of the previous mold/bacteria????Are clothes that have green mold from being near food crumbs okay for use after being washed?
If they look and smell okay they'll be okay to wear. Use a good quality laundry detergent and warm water wash. If there's a lot of mold or mildew, pre-treat the areas using a product like Shout or just plain old household ammonia (never use ammonia with bleach). Are clothes that have green mold from being near food crumbs okay for use after being washed?
You could run it through the pre-wash as well as the warmest cycle that the item of clothing will allow. If it is white, use some bleach, on coloured use a dash of vinegar. They should be fine after that.

  • What can you do about mold in a bathroom, Walls and ceiling? Washed it off but it keeps coming back ...!?

Put a table top fan in the bathroom and keep it running on high 24/7. Keep bathroom door open at all times except when room is in use. Your mold problem will disappear. The mold will still be present in microscopic form and will re-grow if you let moisture accumulate on the walls and ceiling. Keep the room dry with ventilation and the running fan and the mold will not be a problem. The reason the fan works is because it keeps warm, moist air moving and doesn't allow it to sit on a cool surface long enough for the water in the air to condense. Contractor in NW Montana. What can you do about mold in a bathroom, Walls and ceiling? Washed it off but it keeps coming back ...!?
First thing, never ever ever paint over mold! You'll be bringing huge problems about yourself. Second, there is no product known to man that can KILL mold. Most likely, you have some sort of water source above the ceiling. If there is any paint bubbling on the ceiling/walls, call your insurance company and they usually cover any damage caused as a result of a water loss.

If you continue to wipe the mold away, it will continue to come back. Whatever the moisture may be from, the mold is feeding on it and spreading. Bleach will do nothing more to the mold then it would a brand new red shirt... Removing the drywall where the mold is found is the only way to get rid of the mold. It should be done by a professional, and with a significant amount of caution. Try to locate the source of the water first, whether it be a leaky roof or cracked pipe. If it is anything of that kind, your insurance should handle most costs affilliated with the remediation. What can you do about mold in a bathroom, Walls and ceiling? Washed it off but it keeps coming back ...!?
For Bathrooms Scrub it off with an iron filing Scrubber (wearing gloves, to avoid hands getting hurt ) and then wash it off. The molds will not reappear for a substantially longer period. For Walls and Ceilings try Water proofing them with special waterproofing chemical paints and emulsions. I too am just an amateur in the matter. Try better resources and post the same for all to benefit. Regards to all of U.
If you are renting I would call your landlord and have it fixed. If they dont fix it for sure have it tested. We lived with mold in our house for 6 months with the landlord doing nothing. If it is your own home. You could try spraying some bleach that should kill it but it could be in the walls if it keeps coming back. Have you had a pipe burst? That could cause it to happen.
sounds like a ventilation problem, Mold keeps coming back due to moisture, is there a fan? does it work? Try checking into a new vent fan.

    Happy Holidays
YOU CAN PRIME IT WITH ''KILZ''. IT WILL KILL THE MOLD. THE BEST WAY TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM IS TO REMOVE %26amp; REPLACE WITH MOLD RESISTANT SHEETROCK.(PROBABLY PRETTY EXPENSIVE)
theres to much steam in b/room,get a de-humidifier in b/room to draw out all dampness, dont forget to empty tray after use.

I use a Gilmour hose end sprayer and bleach. The Gilmour costs a little more but worth it.How do I get mold off of my vinyl siding? I tried power washing it, but it was not effective.?
A mixture of water and bleach and a lot of rubbing. You don't want to put a lot of bleach in the water as it could damage your siding. Maybe a half cup or so of bleach to a gallon.

How can i clean clothing from a moldy garage? they dont have mold on them but what about air spores? wash all?

my garage has white, green and black mold. waiting on test results of exactly what kind of mold? I had a clothes rack in there and dont know if the clothes are contaminated?? They have no direct mold on them but i am worried about air born spores?? I have low immunity and cant take any chances. Could they be contaminated even if they have no obvious mold spots??How can i launder them to kill any mold. I heard washing in borax twice and drying well is the best. I am ill and thats a lot of work when i dont even know IF they are contaminated? How can i clean clothing from a moldy garage? they dont have mold on them but what about air spores? wash all?
Hottest water the clothes can handle bleach for the whites and color safe bleach for your colors. Also if they give you an ok to in and clean where a ventilation mask clean with hot water and bleach, and I would paint over with Killz it kills any mold you missed cleaning and prevents it from coming back. How can i clean clothing from a moldy garage? they dont have mold on them but what about air spores? wash all?
You'll want to wash them in the hottest water the material will allow. Add bleach to the whites, and white vinegar to the colored clothes. The bleach and/or vinegar will kill the mold spores, as will the heat of the dryer. If you want to store them in the garage again, put them in plastic containers that have a tight fitting lid.

Is it worth trying to wash/restore clothes now that got laced with mold after a big storm this past summer?

They were washed almost immediately after the mold was discovered in the summer, but then left in boxes with dryer sheets (which they now smell like) I've been able to remove the smell from some of the ones that weren't affected that bad by washing and washing and washing, but I'm an asthmatic and I'm certainly not willing to sacrifice my health for things that can eventually be replaced. If it's possible to save them, I'll try my hardest (I'm a college sophomore, which equals BUDGET), but if not, I'll toss the really bad ones and be done with it. Also, does a mold smell necessarily mean that the mold is still there (that may be a stupid question, so i'm sorry in advance)Is it worth trying to wash/restore clothes now that got laced with mold after a big storm this past summer?
If they still smell moldy or they have stains, then the mold is still there. If the stains are still there after repeated washings then you will probably never get them out. Have you used any stain removers like Shout? Try that, but instead of washing right away, let the stain remover sit on the clothing for a day then wash as usual. Good luck!Is it worth trying to wash/restore clothes now that got laced with mold after a big storm this past summer?
Generally speaking, once mold gets on anything, it's discarded. Best wishes.
Mold will invade the fibers on the microscopic level. That's what makes it impossible to remove from some fabrics.

    Sorry :(
You might try washing them and add a cup of vinegar to the water. Or a small amount of chlorine bleach, not enough to bleach your clothes but enough to kill the mold spores, and hang them out in the fresh air to dry.

How do you get mold out of clothing? I tried washing it 2xs and spraying it with every kind of stain fighter.

Sprinkling salt, mixed with lemon juice on the mildew will remove the stain. Try rubbing it in with a wash cloth, then put it in the laundry. Check before drying to see if stain was removed. This put bubbles in my ceiling and had an inch of water in three rooms in the house. Water was also in all my duct work. Is this something to worry about considering in between the two apartments is a void that can not be acessed and get the water cleaned up. This also got carpet wet in a couple of spots. Which possibly is being replaced. Water got into the Braker box and kicked my wahing machine outlet off. Should I consider asking to move or will it be ok?I live in an low level apt.My upr level nghbrs wash mac flooded my apt. Will mold frm in my ceiling and walls?
Sounds like mold could become a problem . the wet drywall must be removed. Good Luck!I live in an low level apt.My upr level nghbrs wash mac flooded my apt. Will mold frm in my ceiling and walls?
Mold will prob form it depends on how long everything was wet for. Behind the dry wall might have mold but you would need to look at it. Not all mold is harmful it mostly depends on the type and quanity of the mold. With having an infant I'm sure that is scary but if you notice more colds or ear infections that could be a sign there is a problem. Unless your landlord is willing to tear the drywall out I don't see how you would be able to break your lease. I had the same prob.

Umm why would there be mold on the scalp? Cider vinegar is used to make hair shiny (I wouldn't do it personally, but i think it's one of those home secret type things)... never heard of your cause. If you have dandruff or something, you need to see a dermatologist or buy zinc shampoo...

Well I guess that all depends on how long it has been sitting there, and if it was made of glass or plastic?

Glass will obviously be fine if you wash it in hot water, but depending on how long the mold has set on the plastic......well then I might consider getting a new one?

Good luck.Coffee pot had old coffee with mold growing in it, i washed it with scalding water, do you think it is okay?
Some dishwasher detergents have bleach which will definitely sanitize the coffee maker parts whether plastic, metal, or glass. Probably the way you cleaned it is fine. I believe we've had the same problem once or twice and had no ill effects after sending it through the dishwasher.

Another thing you could do - is join your local Free Cycle group and see if anyone offers a coffee maker. You'll be amazed at the items people give away for various reasons. To join you log onto the site at: http://www.freecycle.org. You'll fill out a brief questionnaire. To join in my area we then had to describe why we wanted to join. I put ';to keep usable items out of the landfills';.
It's fine to use.... You can run 1 cup of white vinegar through the coffee maker then run plain water through it. Do this once in a while to clean out the inside of your coffee maker too.
    yes.

    you're fine

Most washer and dryers have gentle cycles just for what you have. If you don't try these cycles you'll never know if they really work. Unless you already have with other clothing you have. Once a piece of clothing gets mold on it, it's difficult to get it out again. So you might as well try the gentle cycle. You can dry soaking and clean by hand and see how that goes. Other wise that's all I have to offer.

Sue Them (cksq)Mold in my ford freestyle due to car wash with sunroof open and window 1' down??? will an ionizer kill the mo
Ionizer will help if there is odor. Just find a safe place in the sun open all the doors and windows and turn the SUV a couple of times to let it dry out on all sides. Almost all the materials in cars have been treated with anti fungus spray or the plastics just don't support the mold spoors to start with. You will be alright. This happens more than you think. Get a free oil change for getting your car wet, just ask.
Sorry - ionizer will NOT help - you'll need to replace ruined fabric at $$$.
well mold hmmm that is very dangerous, the ionizer will stop the spores from roaming and causing new mold but it will not kill the mold, you have to take some lemon juice and vinegar and douse the mold, or you can use a white zinefindel and pour it over the mold let it sit for a while (40minutes-1hour) then you work it in with a brush and then rinse it thoroughly.
Breathing mold and mildew is not healthy....a 50/50 mixture of bleach water kills mold and mildew.
I've left my own windows open in the rian and gotten mildew . . . i just leave the window open on hot days and eventually the sunshine and heat kills the spores and dries everything up. Once everything is dry, you can use febreeze to kill the odor too, in the upholstery and the carpet. But you definitely should go back to the dealer and insist that they do something for the inside, too, they might have a better idea.
did you tell them about this when it happened? if so they may be responsible for the repairs. my car got hit at the dealership and they had to fix it, however i never took it off the lot.

yes that is very true, however dont do it more thatn once or twicce a month, also vinegar and eg work really well also(as gross as it sounds) just whisp it until desired.I heard that if use wash your hair with apple cider vinegar it will kill mold that is under scalp . Is is true
Umm why would there be mold on the scalp? Cider vinegar is used to make hair shiny (I wouldn't do it personally, but i think it's one of those home secret type things)... never heard of your cause. If you have dandruff or something, you need to see a dermatologist or buy zinc shampoo...
you mean scalp like head scalp? THre shouldnt be mold on your salp, if there is go to the dr i have never heard of that. or do you mean dandruff?
No it's not true but if you had mold on your scalp you would be sick right now.

Coffee pot had old coffee with mold growing in it, i washed it with scalding water, do you think it is okay?

i cant afford another one and my hubby lives on coffee. Do you think that washing it and putting it through the dishwasher will be good or should he live without coffee at home?Coffee pot had old coffee with mold growing in it, i washed it with scalding water, do you think it is okay?

Do this once in a while to clean out the inside of your coffee maker too.
    yes.

    you're fine

Please help meHow do i get mold/mildew off of my expensive lingerie? to fragile or washing machine?
Try soaking them in white vinegar.

Congratulations on your weight loss! How do i get mold/mildew off of my expensive lingerie? to fragile or washing machine?
Most washer and dryers have gentle cycles just for what you have. If you don't try these cycles you'll never know if they really work. Unless you already have with other clothing you have. Once a piece of clothing gets mold on it, it's difficult to get it out again. So you might as well try the gentle cycle. You can dry soaking and clean by hand and see how that goes. Other wise that's all I have to offer.

Mold in my ford freestyle due to car wash with sunroof open and window 1' down??? will an ionizer kill the mo

dealer ship ran car thru carwash after I specified not to, flooded vehicle , clead up moisture then did not tell me and let me drive away to find massive amount of water above headliner when I got onto the highway...Mold in my ford freestyle due to car wash with sunroof open and window 1' down??? will an ionizer kill the mo

Black areas and teeny black spots of mold? That's probably mildew, and while re-laundering will get rid of the smell, the stains are there for good. Dell_far is right. Also if isn't an older neptune and you have not installed the new updated door boot. You can use a hole punch or a drill to put a 3/16- 1/4'; hole in the center of the boot so that the water will drain better and not stand in it. The new boot has the hole already in it.I have a Maytag Neptune frount loading washing machine. There is mold on the door on the rubber, want it gone?

Mold is on the vinyl siding but very close to where the wires attach to home.Hi, im power washing my vinyl siding, how close can I get to the wires coming from the street to clean mold?
I wouldn't blast water right onto the connection, but it should be sealed to the weather. So you should be able to go right up to the wire.

But in saying that once you get close, rubber gloves and rubber boots might be wise.

Is leaving the dish washing sponge in used detergent water build up mold?

My roommates are cheap and think that if we dont squeeze the used dish detergent after we wash the dishes and leave it in the dish and reuse. Does anybody know that if it build up mold?Is leaving the dish washing sponge in used detergent water build up mold?
Rinse and squeeze it out every time and let it dry out. At least once a week rinse it out good, get it good and full of clean water, set it on a plate and microwave it for three minutes to kill all the stuff that is growing in there. Let it cool off, rinse again and let it dry. One that's been left to soak is really GROSS!!!Is leaving the dish washing sponge in used detergent water build up mold?
It can sour in the water unless you have added something like a few drops of tea-tree oil, grape-seed extract, silver solution or a little peroxide - all of which kill germs and keep the water and sponge from souring. Even if you wring out the sponge each time, it can sour between washings if some of the above is not used in the water, or on the sponge.
Yuck! I don't know about the mold part, but it just doesn't seem sanitary! :) I always rinse mine in HOT water after doing dishes and then putting in microwave for 5 minutes. Then the sponge is ready to go the for the next day.

I read an article once that suggested doing this, as it is the only ';real'; way to kill all of the germs. It works better than bleach.
That is so nasty. The sponge has pours very big pours. As a capfull of bleach to the water. Nasty bacteria, yuck.

Could my husband gotten a stomach bug after pressure washing a deck with squirrel/bird droppings/mold?

He never uses any kind of face protection. He's vomiting and has a slight fever. No diarrhea. Just wondering if I should treat this as more than just an average stomach bug.Could my husband gotten a stomach bug after pressure washing a deck with squirrel/bird droppings/mold?
I pressure wash daily and this has never happened to me, but it is certainly possible. The force of the water will splatter debris from what you are cleaning and it could be inhaled - sure, small particles of bird poop and mold, too. I typically only wear a mask (N95) when cleaning asbestos siding. I think it is more of a reaction to the mold spores than the feces and it should flush from his system in a day or so. Obviously, if not, take him to a doctor.Could my husband gotten a stomach bug after pressure washing a deck with squirrel/bird droppings/mold?
Honestly, Its probably nothing more than just the regular Stomach Flu. If it doesn't get better within a few days, take him to the doctor. Tell him I said feel better.
    Absolutely.

Can mold be washed out of fabric?

I have towels that have been left in the shower. They were moldy, they have been washed...but there is still a stain. Is there residual mold left. Are they safe to use.Can mold be washed out of fabric?
I had this happen once to me, too. If your clothes are whites, then you should be able to kill the mold by washing in hot water and bleach. If they are colors, throw them away. They are ruined. Can mold be washed out of fabric?
No, throw them away. I got sick when I was smaller from it and my cousin did it by accident and the mold made them really ill.

  • Do new front load washing machines still have mold mold problems?

Did they fix the mold problem on new front loaders?Do new front load washing machines still have mold mold problems?
I have a front loader and have no mold problems.Do new front load washing machines still have mold mold problems?
I understand it can still be a problem due to the water that remains just inside the front door. When i bought mine they recommended not shutting the door tight when not in use. Have had it 1.5 years and no mildew and mine is in the basement where there is dampness. Wouldnt buy any other kind but a front loading energy saver.
the ';fix'; for the mold problems is having people not close the door all the way when the washer is not in use...just leave it slightly open that way it can dry out inside.

If mold grows on a bowl and you wash it can you still use it?

What is the material of the ';bowl?'; Is it ceramic, plastic, stainless steel? That would help us answer your question.

Just remember, bleach does not kill mold, but trisodium phosphate (TSP) does, in strong solution, that's what Spin-N-Span is, but a stronger TSP may be purchased for cleaning mold and walls, and washing them before painting when they have strong colors and wallpaper that needs removing. And, it depends on how you clean, rinse, and use the ';bowl'; in question.

I cannot see any reason if the bowl is not porous, why you cannot wash it well in warm, soapy water, and soak it for a couple of hours in white vinegar, rinse and dry it well, why you cannot use it again.

The questions still remains, however, and what was in it that caused the ';mold'; to grow on it - how do you know it is the mold organism? If mold grows on a bowl and you wash it can you still use it?
if the bowl was porous, meaning water or fluids can soak into it's surface, then no, because there is the possibility that some mold spore may still be present. If the bowl was made of foam plastic like polystyrene( the white plastic cup stuff) throw it away to be safe.

If the bowl was hard plastic, or non porous, like glazed ceramic, glass or metal, then when you wash the article thoroughly, in hot water with a common dish soap. it should kill the mold and it's reproductive sprores, making it safe to use again. Make sure it's dry before storing it, and if the mold came from spoiled food in the fridge, do yourself a favor and check ALL the food in that fridge for mold or spoilage to prevent possible food poisoning or sickness. ( Belive me, it's better to throw away $10 worth of leftovers than to loose a whole day's pay due to puking your guts out.) Trust me on that.If mold grows on a bowl and you wash it can you still use it?
Well, after you are sure it is clean, you can! I'm a big fan of bleach, so when *I* got done with it, it would be safe to use again! (Smiles and reaches for bleach bottle!)
If you wash it real good i guess you can. o i know use bleach. Hope I helped.

A cup had mold in it and I washed it out with just warm faucet water and handwashing dish detergent?

Simple solution that works and gives you peace of mind:

Boil water in tea kettle or pot

Add dish detergent to the cup

Add two to four tablespoons of bleach to the cup

Fill with the boiling hot water

Let it soak for 5 minutes

With rubber gloves on, wash the cup and rinse THOROUGHLY to remove detergent and bleach residue

Set cup in area to completely dry, preferably inverted position of dish rack

Cup should be completely sanitized and ready to use the next day.A cup had mold in it and I washed it out with just warm faucet water and handwashing dish detergent?
Even if you didn't wash it out, it would be ok. Mold is harmless!

How do get get mold and mildew out of my washing machine and bathroom?

I'm living in Africa without a lot of the luxuries like household chemicals that I'd normally find in the States. And my bathroom shower mat and my washing machine (rubber seals and all) have developed a HUGE amount of mold and mildew. It's so disgusting. How can I get rid of it without access to many chemicals like CLR, etc? Any other ideas? How do get get mold and mildew out of my washing machine and bathroom?
Can you get Chlorine Bleach? You can run a cycle through your machine with you mat in it if it will fit. Use hot water and about 2 or 3 cups bleach. If you can't get it, Try a gallon of Vinegar or a couple bottles of cheap, strong alcohol. If you simply can't get any of those things, try a really really strong salt water wash. With any or these, put 3 or 4 old towels in the machine too to rub the junk off. Bleach will work the best, but any of these will help, in not get rid of all of it.How do get get mold and mildew out of my washing machine and bathroom?
If you can get clorine bleach that works great. If not then use tea tree oil and wipe everything down liberally with it (mixed with water and a little alcohol as an emulsifier)
Bleach is your best bet. Also, it sounds like you don't have enough air circulating in the bathroom. After a shower, put a fan into the doorway to help dry your bathroom out, and prevent new mold growth.
Bleach should do the trick, put in a spray bottle and spray the areas well, after washing clothes leave the lid on your washer open so it will dry out.
install a draw fan in the cieling, with a hose leading to the out side in the attic to the outer wall. set a box fan in the door way for several days and let it dry the room good. spray the mold and mildew with clorox bleach from time to time. there are many things you can do. mold and mildew are no match for lemon juice. make a paste of 1 part lemon juice and 1 part boax rud on to the mold or mildew allow to dry then rinse good with clear water.
    Vinegar...... vinegar kills germs!!!!
I would use vineagar, which works as a disinfectant and cleanser.

How do you clean mold from a washing machine?

mold is on rubber area just inside door on a ';front loading'; machineHow do you clean mold from a washing machine?
*Use ';high efficiency'; rated laundry detergent. This is recommended for front-loading washers because it is low sudsing. The suds that build up in nooks and crannies cause the mold problem.

*Reduce the amount of regular laundry detergent you use if you cannot buy the high efficiency detergent. Use only about 1/4 the amount you would normally use. Unfortunately, this will sacrifice the quality of clean you will achieve.

*Add 1/4 cup of vinegar to your powdered detergent. The acidity will reduce the amount of suds produced.

*Use bleach in at least one load every couple of weeks. If you live in an area where the water is too mineral rich to use bleach without staining, run the washer empty with 1/4 cup of bleach. Even if you use bleach just for sheets or towels, it will make a significant difference in the mold problem. Always use the bleach compartment so that it will be significantly diluted before touching your wash.

*Wipe the door gasket with a diluted bleach solution once every couple of weeks and dry thoroughly.

*Leave the front-loading washer door ajar between loads to allow air to circulate. How do you clean mold from a washing machine?
One important tip is when you are finished using your washer, leave the door slightly ajar so air can flow in and out. This will help future build-up of mold.

As for the present mold problem, try Tilex mold and mildew remover with a cloth or sponge...but be sure to rinse well after using this.

Also try Oxyclean mixed with hot water. Good luck.
use a solution of bleach and water. Spray it on there and let it sit for a while then wipe it down. Spray on a thin coat and leave it. Make sure it's dry before putting clothes in. I'd probably do my whites first.
mix 2parts water to one part vinegar and scrub it off. Be quick, as vinegar is a little corrosive to rubber, tends to dry it out with prolonged contact
Try a load of bleach and hot water. That should do the trick
    wipe it off with bleach

I always put aquarium charcoal in my ashtrays (I don't smoke) to keep odors down in my car. You can also sprinkle baking soda on your carpets, work it in a bit and let it sit overnight. Vacuum the next day. Don't use Febreze or deodorizers, they just cover odors up and are stinky!

  • Why does my laundry smell like mold a few hours after washing them?

It's the towel especially. When I first bring them out of the dryer they smell just fine but after a couple hours they smell like mold or mildew. It's it my clothes too but it's really strong with the towels. What's up?

Thanks. Why does my laundry smell like mold a few hours after washing them?
First aspect of problem is mineral and pipe build-up contaminating your water, Very likely cause.

Washing machines don't have filters. Although newer front loaders do have traps (usually there is a door on the bottom left or right)

You need to drain it there before pulling the ';filter'; because water does stay in it.

If the water sits in the washer (or the wet cloths) it doesn't take long for it to smell. Especially if the washer doesn't adequately evacuate the rinse water.

Stale water that sits in the bottom, under your spin basket...

I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.

You could try before putting your load in, get a pitcher of hot water, as hot as it can get from the tap, pour it in the bottom and run the final spin cycle until you don't hear water coming out of the drain tube, (or maybe see it)

You can run the spin cycle again at the end of the load too if you want to try to get more water out.

Washers are fairly easy to work on. You just need a screwdriver for the cover and a socket wrench with a couple long extensions to get the agitator out.

When you pull the outer cover off, you'll find all kinds of dirty buildup around the inside of the basket, hidden by the case.

The case is held at the top only, hinged at the front bottom.

Usually two screws hold the control device down onto the cover.

Take those out and tilt the cover up and back (carefully, some have wires you have to un-harness to give the freedom.)

Then the case will tilt forward (might take some effort if its old and stuck with dirt)

Give it a scrub with a bleach cleaner. Put it back together, Run the rinse cycle. You don't have to take the agitator out. It's only slightly more complicated though.

You can inspect the cogs that make it spin. Sometimes people don't know that the agitator has stopped working.

These little cogs are plastic and wear out. They can be ordered online for 3 dollars. They just snap in or sit in place.

There might be a pop-off or screw-off cap hiding the agitator bolt.

Whole process, including agitator removal and re-install, and cleaning

your talking 1:00 to 1:30 time frame.

    (not including tool hunting expedition)

Why does my laundry smell like mold a few hours after washing them?
You are leaving them in the washer too long before throwing them in the dryer. Once you have washed and dried so many times the smell may just stay in them even if you get them out quickly enough.

First you need to run an empty cycle in the washer with hot water and bleach to kill anything in the washer itself. Then when doing your clothes and towels, wash on the hottest setting the clothes can take, use Clorox 2 as well as your regular detergent and make sure you remove them immediately after the wash cycle is done and put them in the dryer.

I had this same problem forever and it seemed the smell wasn't going away even after getting them straight into the dryer. I tried so many different products including, vinegar, baking soda, Borax.

What finally worked for me was the Clorox 2 and Tide with Bleach. The combo of them finally got the smell out and kept it out. Oh and washing on hot!
It could be from you leaving the towels in the washer too long after there done. They do start to smell if you leave them in there and there wet. Try setting a timer or something so you know exactly when the washer will stop. It could also be your washer that just needs washed. Put the setting on really hot water and add some bleach and just let the washer feel up and wash with nothing in it. That should get rid of the smell
Have you tried washing them in really hot water

Add Blast which contains Borax it also acts as stain fighters

If Blast does not work give one more try with Arm %26amp; Hammer Washing Soda this is hard to find in supermarket. It but the box claims to remove stains and odors while in wash cycle
It sounds as if you could have Mold in your washer. Try running a cup of bleach in a hot EMPTY load....

That should kill it off. Plus NEVER leave the wet clothes in the washer for a long period, they will mold.
the only thing my mom has found that works is febreze fabric freshener.

pour some in the final rinse.

other than that, she tosses it out.

Maybe your washing machine is dirty. Start your washing machine and add 1 1/2 of bleach. This should help clean your washing machine.
Are you putting them directly in the dryer after washing them? If you aren't, then it's mildew causing the smell.

Ah Ha! I just wrote an answer for another question. So here it goes again...........new washers are having a time with mold growing on internal plastic parts. It's the fillers and emulsifiers in detergents causing the problem. BLEACH doesn't work. There is a solution......short of finding an old washer: http://www.smellywasher.com/

This guy has developed a special cleaner you put in your machine every so often, let it sit, it kills the mold.
I have a Maytag Neptune front loading machine and hi have the same trouble. My machine has this rubber seal between the door and tub. When the laundry is finished there is a little water left between the seal and if you don' dry it ever time it smells bad. I also have mold all over the seal. When i contacted Maytag the told me to use hot water and bleach also to leave door open when not in use %26amp; don't leave laundry in the machine.

I will never buy another washer like that again. If i had only know. Hope this helps you out, plese let me know.
try running a load of whites with hot water and chlorine bleach. if its safe to do so, leave the door open and let it air out between uses.
Have you tryed running a full cycle with bleach only in it? If not pour about 2 cups of only bleach in it. Let it run 1 full cycle see if that helps.
You should clean your washer at least once a year, or twice a year, Take a half gallon of white vinegar and put it in your washing machine, and run a wash with no clothing in it. The acid in the vinegar will clean your machine and pipes of all the residue that is left from the soap suds and softeners we use,. Vinegar is also an odor eater and will remove the moldy odor and you will have a super clean machine. If the clothes are starting to have an odor, just at 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. and it will remove the odor.
    Chuck Chuck Watto
I have a new front loader washing machine too and to stop the smell of mould from forming you have to leave the door open after every wash to allow the inside to dry out. As for getting the smell out, bleach sounds liek the best solution.
I had the same problem with a front loading washer. The drain pipe probably has fibers stuck in it and yuckies accumulated. Just clean it or replace it and the smell should go away.

    Worked for me.

Mold was dark and slimy. When I was in the shower, I accidentally touched some mold. If I washed my hands right after should I be ok?
Skin is pretty tough stuff. If you don't have any open sores or cuts it will protect you. A more likely source of entry to your body would be breathing the spores from the mold. Most, but not all mold, is pretty harmless. There are cleaning products at the grocery store sold especially to kill and clean mold off of showers. You should probably do that. When I was in the shower, I accidentally touched some mold. If I washed my hands right after should I be ok?
Yes dont worry touching mold a little isnt bad just dont eat it lol thats where the real harm is.

And if i were u I would get rid of that mold eww taking a shower with mold by u think about it when u have the shower on and it touches the mold before u its basicly showering u with germs!
Even if you didn't wash your hands at all you would be fine. Touching common household mold is gross.. but harmless. Spray some bleach in your shower and you don't have to worry about that any more.
Yeah, it's normal mildew that every shower gets. You did the best thing, which was wash your hands -- not to mention that you took a shower!

    You'll be fine!
Yes, As long as you did not eat it you will be fine
    haha

    yes. you'll be fine.
    No....your going to die!!

How do I get the mold out of my wicker washing baskets?

Is there a way I can still save them, or should I throw them away? I live in a very humid climate. How do I get the mold out of my wicker washing baskets?
Get a spraybottle and fill it with bleach and water. Spray the baskets until it's covered the mold completely. Hose it down and put the baskets in the sun to dry.

Whenever you have a good sunshine day, just put them outside so they can air and dry out. Also, make sure that the laundry you put in it, is dry and not clammy. Hope this helps. How do I get the mold out of my wicker washing baskets?
use a cleaner with bleach in it, or use a bleach and water mix.

then make sure they are thoroughly dried. a warm, moist environment is great for mould though, so you might need to be using the bleach solution on a regular basis.
Bleach and water then spray it out with a high power hose.
recycle it and buy a plastic one or a stylish metal one.
    spray lysol and sunshine.

It could if mold and mildew is anywhere it can make you sick. Try running the washer all the way through with bleach only use it quite a bit. Put on some rubber gloves and spray some lime remover or some mean green (i think that is what its called) in it and then wipe down throughly. This should kill any germs and bacteria. Can mold or mildew in a washing machine cause you to get sick?
Yes it can. You need to just put in bleach in your Mom's washing machine and let it fill it up with hot water and let it set for a bit then run a load with nothing in it but the bleach. Do this a few times and see if that helps. it may be so far gone that it has gotten into the interworkings and in that case onloy a new washing machine would do.
Definitely, especially if the kitchen cloths are washed in it. Good old boil wash 95 deg C should clear it out - good for the kitchen cloths too. Be tactful about it to your Mum though.
I don't think so,but may be you can tell Doctor and take his opinion, and if it's necessary change the machine or buy a new one.
Yes! You need to just put in bleach in the washing machine and run it with nothin in it. Bleach should kill the bacteria.
It would probably be worse in the dryer, esp. the exhaust vent...check that too.
No I very much doubt it:)
no sense in going into it,yes

  • Bathroom rug had mold on bottom, washed it, color of mold still there, okay to use?

I'm not sure if just the color of the mold is left or there is actually mold still on the rug. Still okay to use?Bathroom rug had mold on bottom, washed it, color of mold still there, okay to use?
The real threat from mold is grossly hyped. I have been arount moldy things all my life and have never known anyone to be affected by it. That is not to say you should try to surround yourself with it either. Simply spray a little bleach water on the bottom of the rug to ensure the mold it dead and don't worry about it.Bathroom rug had mold on bottom, washed it, color of mold still there, okay to use?
NO. Mold can make you very sick. Get rid of it ASAP!
Soak the rug really well in white vinegar and then wash it again...that'll kill the rest of the mold.
yes its OK to use but i would wash it like 2 more times then wash it like once a month from then on

or just go buy a knew one and wash it once a month!
get rid of it. you dont want that to become black mold. any mold can make your alergys go crazy and maybe even make you sick. the best thing to do would be to just buy a new one.
I would try washing it again with baking soda or white vinegar. If the color is still there but the smell is gone it should be safe to use again because most likely it is just a stain from the mold's color.
Unless you can wash it in a solution of bleach then I wouldn't risk it.
I recommend rubbing bleach on the mold stain to kill any mold. If the stain remains, it will still be okay to use b/c the mold will be killed.

How do i get rid of the nasty mold smell in my washing machine?

i have it for one year and inside of the machine it has a ruber ring which i wipe after every wash and i keep the door open so it can dry out even more but it still smells like moldHow do i get rid of the nasty mold smell in my washing machine?
Is it a Maytag Neptune?? They stink. (Literally)

Either way, run an empty load every so often with a good measure of bleach added.

The vinegar will work, too.How do i get rid of the nasty mold smell in my washing machine?
This is going to sound crazy, but I have done it to both my washing machine and my dishwasher and it is the only thing that worked for me on either one of them.

Do an empty load but put a cup of Kool Aid Lemonade Drink Mix inside before you start. I know it sounds ridiculous but my dishwasher was so bad and someone suggested it, not only did it work but it worked very good. So I tried it in the washing machine, at first I used a 1/2 cup, and there was still a little bit of a smell, but about a week after that I tired a full cup and it really worked. Only the Lemonade will work, it has something to do with citric acid.
Run two or three cycles with no clothes in it, but add excess bleach. Maybe five cap fulls. It should get rid of the sour smell. Your basically burning the molds that are causing the stanky smell.

Don't overdue the bleach. it can cause breathing problems and eye irritation if you put in to much.
I would try running some vinegar through the washing machine...let it set in there for a while.

    Vinegar is an amazing thing....

    http://www.versatilevinegar.org/usesandt鈥?/a>
Is this an HE washer? HE washers use less water and tends to accumulate odor causing residue. Either way I would recommend using affresh tablets.
First and for most do not leave wet clothes in your washer for long periods of time...try a little Clorox or fabreez and let it run with no clothes... one other thing that might help keep the lid open... Good luck
If theres a mold smell there might be mold....you might want to get a new one.
Wash your whites with bleach. That should get rid of the smell and you will have whiter whites too
if there is a way to get to it,try to spray bleach.
    That is really weird.

However, I know that bleach kills mold.

Try running it once a week on hot with bleach (even with no clothes).
    Do a empty load with

    bleach

    or

ammonia (but not bleach at the same time, lol.)

    or

    a cup of baking soda
do a load of NOTHING, but put about one cup bleach into the water..
    spray it with lysol

How do you get the mold smell out of washing mashines and dryers?

I have a horrible mildew/mold smell in my dryer and washing machine. I sprayed it with fabreeze and ran it with bleech but does anyone else have other ideas. It grosses me out! ThanksHow do you get the mold smell out of washing mashines and dryers?
For your dryer, clean out all the airways going out of your dryer. Remove and clean the exhaust hose. Stick a vacuum into the exhaust port of the dryer and vacuum that out. Clean out the lint filter. Wash the lint filter using mild dish soap. Clean everything thoroughly and allow to dry completely before re-using it.

For the washer, run 2 cups of distilled white vinegar in an empty hot wash cycle. Then use 1 cup vinegar in the rinse. You may also want to use a brush of some kind and scrub the drain the washer runs into.

If it persists after doing all of this, move the washer and dryer and see if maybe the smell is coming from under the machines, not inside them. How do you get the mold smell out of washing mashines and dryers?
I can help with the machine -- not sure about the dryer.

You probably have a front-loading washer; as others have said, the problem is one of having the machine closed up with warm water in it. You have developed what's called a biofilm, and it is pretty nasty what lives there.

The absolute best way to remove this stuff isn't available to the general public. The second-best way is to run three cups of bleach in the machine. THIS IS IMPORTANT: run it with cold water -- some of the heaters will burn out even if a little hypochlorite is around (like in the incoming water). I would also use Clorox HE Bleach; it is formulated to protect the parts of HE washers, which use an alloy that is rather sensitive to regular bleach.

This will knock down a lot of the smell; you may have to do this a couple of times. Also, you will want to run a bleach cycle through once a week to once a month as maintenance. And as others said, leave the washer door ajar between washes!
You must have a maytag washer. You should take the top off. you see you have a plastic tub on the outside of your washer what happens is mold grows inbetween both tubs because it doesn,t have any way for the moisture to excape. fill the tub with some water and bleach get a skinny long brush and scrub then run it thru a wash cycle and let it drain and do it again (bleach and water not the scrubbing part) after you scrub put the top back on before you try to run it to empty. There are usally two spring clips in the front of the washer to release the top need something flat to push it in, if not use a screw diver to pry apart. Good Luck
Like the others say to clean it out, BUT also you leave the door of the washer and the drier open and not Latched to allow the air to move around, same as you would do with a fridge if you need to store it.
You might want to check under the agitator cap, i took my cap off not to long ago and cleaned it good, that might be where the smell coming from, you would be surprised what grows under there!!

How do you get rid of a mold smell in your washing machine?

I left some wet clothes in the washing machine for a few days, and now it has an awful, moldy, musty smell. Any home remedies for getting rid of the smell? Thanks. How do you get rid of a mold smell in your washing machine?
run the washer without clothes or detergent but add about 3 cups of white vinegar and use hot water. It gets rid of the smell and has the added benefit of cleaning the gunk out of your washer and drain hose. I do it every couple of months but if you have soft water, you need to do it about once a month. How do you get rid of a mold smell in your washing machine?
This is an easy fix. Add one cup of plain white vinegar to the washing machine and run it through a complete cycle. You should do this regularly to clean your machine, too.
Bleach, throw a few old white sheets or towels in there and use a little detergent and about 1/2 bleach.
put through a cycle with bleach and baking soda it helps
Run your machine on the highest setting %26amp; add a cup of bleach, do the same again %26amp; add a cup of vinegar, this will rid the smell
If you have baking soda run an empty cycle in hot water....Or use bleach.. Just run the washer on empty...You can even use vinegar if you don't have bleach or baking soda....That should fix the problem..
    Bleach.
That smell usually goes away after the next wash, but to really get rid of it,wash some whites and add a small splash of bleach. That'll do it!

What should I do to prevent mold growth behind my washing machine?

My washing machine has small air openings on its back side and because it is placed under the kitchen counter, there is no good ventilation.

As a result, humidity is trapped between the washer and the wall and therefore mold started growing on the wall.

What should I do to prevent mold growth?

I cannot put the washing machine anywhere else.

Should I paint the wall with a mold-resistant paint?

Please help! What should I do to prevent mold growth behind my washing machine?
The fan idea is a great one. If you really want to get creative, you can get a very compact fan and place it inside the cabinet next to the washer machine. This means that you would have to cut a hole in the cabinet and run power from hopefully your garbage disposal outlet. Or a fan on the crevice between the cabinet and the washer machine. The point is get some air back there. Do you have mold or mildew. Mold is black and very very dangerous to your health, mildew is green and not as bad, but it can pose a health issue as well. The cheap and dirty on getting rid of it is getting the machine out, clean the surface of the wall with 1 part clorox and 3 parts warm water. Wipe it clean, then get some KILLS primer, sold at your local Home Depot. You'll want to ventilate the area when your doing this, get the kids out of the area if you have them and wear a mask that is rated for mold and gloves. The harder to some way of solving the problem is replacing the affected area sheet rock with paperless sheet rock being that mildew grows on the paper lining of the sheet rock. You can do a quick patch job on that and since its behind the washer machine, it don't have to look pretty.

Good LuckWhat should I do to prevent mold growth behind my washing machine?
The first thing you should do is get rid of the stain of mold. Clean it with bleach as they said before.

Mold only appears and survives when there is an excess of humidity. Painting the wall will only cover the mold. The problem will still be there but you just won't see it for a while...

You need to get rid of that humidity. As they also said this excess of humidity comes because of a lack of ventilation.

I had a similar problem in a closet with no ventilation and mold started to grow, I found a product called Humydry and I solved the problem. The device is a non electrical dehumidifier that seems to absorb the excess of humidity by transforming it into liquid. You could probably fit one of these devices behind the washing machine, they have different sizes, you would have to remember to change the refill every 2 or 3 months that's it.

    Hope that works for you!
Mold resistant paint is a myth. It never lasts. Kill the existing mold with bleach. Check all water lines for leaks. With the unit out, run a load of dishes and watch for water, or steam. Is the unit designed to be installed in a cabinet? A built in unit should be completely self contained and insulated to prevent condensation and subsequent mold and mildew.
The paint is a good idea, but I would also put a fan in the area to keep the air moving. I have a fan pointed into my bathroom that I run for 2 hours on a timer every day.
You should put a vent in your wall or cabinet. With lack of ventilation to the unit your machine will not work as good. It will break down eventually.

My husband did not seal our oak door so now it has black spots (mold?) on it that will not wash off? HELP!!?

What can I do to get the black spots (mold) off an unsealed oak front door? My husband tried to say it was not mold, but I think it is. Mildew remover did not work. Please help!My husband did not seal our oak door so now it has black spots (mold?) on it that will not wash off? HELP!!?
David B is most likely right %26amp; not mold which mildew remover ( basically chlorine bleach) should take care of.

Had a shop %26amp; stripped lots of oak molding , doors %26amp; trim.

When it gets wet it weeps black or even dark blue material from the pores of the open grain.

The neutralizing acid rinse which kills mold would not touch it.

The door has to dry completely %26amp; a light sanding will help.

Might try an oxygen bleach which will not lighten the wood overall %26amp; make the stains more visible.( just an educated guess)

Anyhow ,if it is mostly in the grain %26amp; sands off the harder portions you

    should be OK.

Would use a good, marine grade varnish rather than polyurethane ( guessing that's what went away)

    Best regards

My husband did not seal our oak door so now it has black spots (mold?) on it that will not wash off? HELP!!?
Its already been said... its not mold but moisture! This happens when you pull up the carpet and see where the dog peed. Same deal. There is no EASY way to fix this unfortunately! You have to dry out and sand down the floor. To be perfectly honest, you may never get the water damage completely gone. Do the best you can... and settle on a darker stain to hide the leftovers. This is one of those bad things about hardwood floors. Its a shame your husband didnt it seal it correctly. (mine would prob do the same thing! hahahaha)

Worst case scenario... get yourself a pretty throw rug. no one will notice! ;-)
could be mold try a water bleach solution but it may lighten the wood at that spot so if it does wash entire door down with it best take it down and put it flat wash the whole door down maybe a light sanding depends on how far down the spot goes into the wood fibers or the tannin in oak is known to interact with iron have you propped door open with a iron door stop this could also cause spots
it isn't mold, it is moisture. You will need to bleach and sand, and once you get the black removed, then re-stain and seal.
Oak will often turn black when it gets wet repeatedly. You'll probably need to use a bleach sold in the paint dept. of Home Depot or Lowe's to get rid of it. I'm pretty sure it isn't mold or mildew though.

  • Is it okay to cook veggies after you have washed some mold off of it? i need help asap???

You would be better to cut it off and discard. Is it okay to cook veggies after you have washed some mold off of it? i need help asap???
It really depends on what type of veggies you are talking about.

Sometimes you can cut out bad spots and the rest of the veggie is okay.

Some veggies will pick up the taste of the mold and not be so good. Use your good judgement. Cut off a little piece and taste it, if it tastes okay ... then cook it and eat it!Is it okay to cook veggies after you have washed some mold off of it? i need help asap???
Depends on the veggie, can you cut away the area where the mold was and still have enough veggie? Sometimes if I keep green peppers in the refrig to long the stem molds, I just cut it away and a little around it and use them. Good luck.
I know on occasions my cucumber may get soft and mushy (and moldy) on one end - I just cut that end off and use the rest. Same for zucchini. If you have bad spots on the zucchini, just rinse it off, then cut out the bad spots and you are good to go.
If the vegetables have mold, then you should just have thrown them away and not wash them. Next time, just toss them out instead of attempting to eat them. They could also have mold inside and make you sick.
when anything has mold on it you should throw it right away instead of bothering to wash it! the next time you find mold on ANYTHING you should throw it away!
yes.. as long as the veggi is not soft and if its just surface mold..If its inside of the veggi throw it out..
soak them in vinegar water first( it kills bacteria)
    nope

I've got mold in my washing machine. How do i get rid of it and is it still ok to use? Or should i buy a new 1

Holly hell! Are there actually people out there who would spend hundreds of dollars on a NEW contraption just because of some stale, dirty water problems?

First off, Dump a cup of bleach in your machine with the normal amount of detergent for a small load. DO NOT PUT ANY CLOTHES IN THIS LOAD. Run the washer through on the longest wash setting. If this doesn't help, or even if it does, then take one small box of arm and hammer baking soda and mix it into the washer and run it throug the same way. This will kill whatever smell is left over after the bleach.

Good luck, and for god's sake, don't blow tons of money on something that is a simple fix.I've got mold in my washing machine. How do i get rid of it and is it still ok to use? Or should i buy a new 1
Do you close the door fully when not in use ? Suggest you leave it open to allow air flow when not in use. Clear the mold with a mold remover you can get from leading supermarkets I think Dettol do one in a spray a lime green sort of spray bottle. You can put yr washing machine on the 95% cycle with some bleach in but not alot. Use Calgon tabs in yr wash too they do work. Unless you have other issues with yr machine don't change it.I've got mold in my washing machine. How do i get rid of it and is it still ok to use? Or should i buy a new 1
Mould will build up because the inside of the machine is damp after a wash load. When you have finished a load, leave the door open for a couple of hours to allow the water droplets to evaporate, and also wipe round the iside door seal with a cloth. This will prolong the life of the door rubber, and help prevent mould build-up.

You don't need a new machine. Put your machine on the 95 degree wash cycle for cottons, with a prewash. Do not use any detergent or softener. Once finished, clean the inside of the machine with a soft cloth (be careful some cheaper models can be surprisingly sharp). Then do what I suggest at the top. You'll find yourmachine back to it's best.
others have suggested how to remove the black mould etc.

I suggest that to avoid getting this problem in future that you run a 'service' wash through every month. This is to clear the machine of the gunge that builds up through repeated use of 40 degree wash cycle and non-biological wash liquids.

A service wash - without any clothes in machine - put half a box of soda crystals into drum, run on half load (if you have that setting) at 90 degree heat cycle.

This is a very good site for washing machine information:

    http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/usage_2.html鈥?/a>

    happy washing
First off no need to buy a new machine. Second use some 409 spray cleaner with sponge rinse it first in hot water. Allow spray to let on mold for 5 or 10 minutes then use the green side of the sponge and scrub really hard. If you don't have that much bleach works wonders be sure to gear gloves before cleaning with it otherwise it can cause irration
My front loader has a huge built up of mould on the rubber bit of the door, and I too was thinking of getting a new one. I rubbed a mix of bicarb and white vinegar left it for an hour. Washed in the hottest (90C on mine) with 2 cups of white vinegar. This process removed a lot of the gunge but not the dark spots. For this I scrubbed the rubber with bleach and then rinse again with warm wash. Note I haven't cleaned the machine in about a year now! I'll start doing a monthly 'service' wash from now on.

I have a Bosch Classixx 1200 Express washing machine. It builds up frequently with mold in the washing powder?

My Bosch Classix 1200 Express washing machine frequently has a large amount of mold build up on the washing powder compartment. I use tablets. I cannont get rid of the mold as the compartment wont come out. Unless someone knows different. How do I get rid of this mold. The clothes smell after one wash. Have taken the drawer out and scrubbed but can't get to the top of the compartment. Please can anybody help. Could it be the way the machine has been fitted.I have a Bosch Classixx 1200 Express washing machine. It builds up frequently with mold in the washing powder?
I have the same machine and the same problem. If you are using a concentrated Fabric Softener, this can encourage it, and so dilute this down in it's drawer with a little water. I find this helps.

But, when it all gets TOO bad, I use a mould cleaner spray (as recommended to me when I asked the same question about 6months ago!!). I've found that 'Dettoll Mould and Mildew cleaner', sprayed into the compartment, and all around the drawer (remove the drawer to completely cover the area) and leave for recommended time, works fine. Before I do a wash I just run a rinse cycle through it to remove all traces of product. You'll be amazed....

But I don't know Why it happens, just how to treat it.I have a Bosch Classixx 1200 Express washing machine. It builds up frequently with mold in the washing powder?
Most machines you pull fairly hard on the dispensing drawer and lift it up a little and it should come out.

Regarding detergent dispensing. I always put the detergent in with the washing as that's where it needs to be and you don't get grotty build up in the dispenser. I happen to use powder, I can't see why tablets wouldn't be ok this way.
once u have got it cleaned out,may i suggest you put powder into drum with your washing, this will help keep the drawer clean.i've put the powder in with the washing for along time now and had no problems.
I use a babys bottle brush its a ucky job i know u think they b able to invent sumert a bit easier to clean wouldnt u!!! :-)
I know this sounds silly but I use my sons water gun to remove it I find the power blasts it off then run the machine on a hot wash to flush it all through
call cust svc it does no good to wash clothes and still feel dirty
    Hi,

I also have a Bosch Classixx 1200 Express washing machine. It is over three years old and happily my washing powder compartment is mould free. To avoid mould occurring, I take it out and wash it in hot water every few washes. I leave the detergent drawer open so that it can always dry out between washes. You can also wipe it dry every time. Damp conditions encourage mould growth.

It sounds like you have tried almost everything but I would try soaking the detergent dispenser in hot water and soda crystals in a bucket. If this doesn't work, I would also try washing it with a solution of bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar.

If this doesn't work, you could 'ring Bosch Customer Services on 08702 413381 to order a a new detergent dispenser (From Ireland, you need to call 018903 22222). These tel no's are in the Classixx instruction handbook. If the machine is still under warranty (ie less than 2 years old) you may get it free. I have had to get a new one myself as the last one cracked. These detergent dispensers are very fragile compared to previous washing machines I have owned.

1 cup of bleach to a gallon of water. scrub till you see no more mold, then once a month run your washer with nothing in it. use hot water. fill all the way and put a cup of bleach in it. doing that will help with any mold issues, clean your washer, and make it smell good. also when your not using the washer you want to leave the lid up so it can dry.
spray with a mold spay for bathrooms (it's a bright green bottle), leave it for 3 minutes, rinse with some water or wipe and spray again if really bad and then run a rinsing cycle to make sure all clear.
bleach will kill mold. you can run your machine through a cycle with only water and bleach (no clothes) to kill mold and germs that may be hanging out anywhere else, too.
pull out the powder drawer and wash it in the dishwasher - put bleach in it and run a hot programme - that will clear it
Wipe it off with household bleach on a rag or paper towel.
    Try using bleach
    Wipe it off.

I have a small amount of mold just inside the door of my washing machine around and under the rubber part. Is it easy to get rid of? What should or can i use to get rid of it? bleach, and try leaving the door open so it can air outCan i get rid of mold inside my washing machine or will i have to buy a new machine?
You can run the washer empty, through a rinse cycle, with 1 cup salt in the drum to scrub it clean. Another alternative is to fill a 12 ounce spray bottle with 2tsp tea tree oil and top off with water, shake, spray and allow to sit a few minutes then wipe away. Tea tree oil is an excellent mold killer that kills the root as well as the top part. White vinegar will work but you need to heat it through and then apply with a cloth and wipe away. It happens when people leave the door to the washer closed instead of allowing air to cycle through. Poor, warm, moist air is the perfect breeding ground for mold which is why your laundry stinks after sitting in the washer for too long. Using white vinegar in place of fabric softener and not using too much soap will also help prevent a nasty build-up inside the washer but you still have to leave the door open to dry out.
Mold can cause skin rashes and allergies.

    1. Identify the source. The main cause is usually use of a wrong type of detergent that creates too many suds. These suds collect in nooks and crannies and cause mold.

    2. Use only an HE (high efficiency) detergent. The HE detergent creates a lot less sudsing and is designed for the modern front loader.

    3. Clean. First wipe the inside of the washer, especially the area where the door seals to the inside. Mold can collect around the insides and folds of the rubber seals. Get in there and make sure you cleaned it all. You could use bleach or disinfectant.

    4. Use a quarter cup of dishwasher detergent (powder is best, liquid if you must), along with a towel. Put the machine on the ';sanitary'; (hottest water) setting. Let it finish its cycle. This should get rid of the mold completely.
i have no idea but i have the same

    so eagally await the answers.

it is limescale mixed with detergent as it wont just wipe off.

it collects because we dont wipe out the drum everytime we use the machine and the water sits there and the limescale hardens

and it is the detergent that gives it the mouldy look

it wont wash off, and bleach and hot washes and washing machine cleaners dont work. might try lime scale remover but afraid the rubber might perish
Do not do anything these other people have said. Get a spray bottle, use 1:4 bleach to water(more water than bleach) mix. Spray on mold, scrub with sponge, rinse with water, DONE!. It is better to use a water/bleach mixture rather than straight bleach.
I would think if you just ran the machine with hot water and bleach it would clean itself (Kill the MOLD)
Run the washer with hot water and bleach. That should kill the mold.
Sorry don't know the answer but will watch with interest. Ours has got mold as well.

  • How can you get rid of mold inside a washing machines rubber seal?

It's my mums birthday and her day hasn't started off too well. She woke up to a nasty smell coming from the laundry, and found that there was mold inside our washing machines rubber seal. Are there any simple ways I'll be able to remove this while she is at work... Just for a nice surprise :) She is stressing about it, and I want her to have a good day.How can you get rid of mold inside a washing machines rubber seal?
try some bleach or CLR that should work it should kill itHow can you get rid of mold inside a washing machines rubber seal?
    Bleach does a wonderful job

Dilute 1 cup of bleach to 3 cups of water - wipe it down a couple times and then rinse it after about 5-10 minutes

I don't think you can remove that rubber seal ~ you'll have to do it in place

Also run a cycle with 1 cup of bleach and a full wash tub of water (NO CLOTHES)
Get mildew remover and a rag and go to town :) It should take like minutes ;)
I have a front loader and have never had a problem with the rubber seal, as when I get done with a load, I simply leave the door open and allow it to air dry. I check it after each load to make sure coins, wet tissue and other foriegn items have not clogged it and maybe give a quick wipe with a washcloth dipped in hot water and light bleach solution. But every once in a while, I ';forget'; to take a load out promptly and put it in the dryer and the washer can develop a ';funky'; smell. I usually will make the next run with towels, add either a small amount of bleach, or vinegar and run the hottest temp and HEAVY SOIL setting. Funky smell is gone, and I go back to leaving the door open after each wash and trying to put the next load promptly into the drier. If the smell doesn't go away from the washer, try using a light mixture of bleach to hot water and washing down the seal, maybe followed by a careful rinse. Still funky? Try baking soda in hot water, or plain white vinegar on the rubber seal, let stand a few minutes, then rinse carefully or allow to air dry. If you have ACTUAL mold on the seal, try using a scrubby sponge dipped in a light solution of bleach to hot water, removing as much of the visible mold as possible, or wipe with a clean damp cloth, preferably white, so that you can see if material is still coming off. If the mold is thick, you may have to repeat a few times. I would follow this up with a load of items that can take a light bleaching (such as towels or white linens) without overstuffing the machine, add an extra rinse to the cycle if possible. As soon as the load is done, remove the items to the drier promptly. It should be smelling clean and mold free. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have removed mold around my tree, is it safe to wash the tree trunk with bleach water?

I don't think bleach is the best idea. If you must use something- dilute some lemon juice in water. It's acidic enough to kill the fungus maybe but not strong enough to harm the tree. Oh and by the way, mold itself won't harm the tree, it's just there because of the moisture- do you have mulch around the tree? if so, move it and the moisture won't stay trapped around the trunk. Mulch isn't very good for trees anyway.I have removed mold around my tree, is it safe to wash the tree trunk with bleach water?
It would be kinder to use warm water, but the tree is a living thing and living things and bleach don't really go well together do they ;) what you'll be doing is quenching it's thirst with bleach. I hope I don't come back as a tree! Lol!I have removed mold around my tree, is it safe to wash the tree trunk with bleach water?
i don't recommend it, since bleach is still chemical although it is not a strong posion.

If my dishes has mold in them, can I wash them or should I just throw them away?

You can sterilize them by bleaching them, or boiling them. The mold that is (in my guess in your plastics) will be dead and therefore not harmful, (need at least 30 seconds to kill the germs) However if the sight of it there bothers you, you can toss them. The mold will always look like it is in there, and can be exasperatingly difficult to remove. One thing you can do to help the situation is make sure your dishes dry completely (overnight if necessary) to ensure there is not going to be a rebuild-up of new mold. Also, storing your containers without the lids on will help.

    Hope this helps

Good Luck!!!If my dishes has mold in them, can I wash them or should I just throw them away?
Toss them. You could clean them, but when you go to use them again, how could you not keep from thinking ';these once had mold on them';?

But, then again, I wouldn't have any glasses left if I had thrown away every ';science experiment'; my kids had going with glasses of milk that were left in their rooms during the summer.

If you want to keep them, I'd run them thru the dishwasher 3 or 4 times, and only after scraping them and letting them soak for a day in the sink in hot soapy water. If my dishes has mold in them, can I wash them or should I just throw them away?
You should throw them out as the mould has probably set in under the enamal and will cause you medical problems.
just throw a little bleach in the water like a cap full and wash the dishes like you normally do they will be ok
